Our "adventure" in Mystic, Connecticut today was so much fun and we met some really nice people! Our first stop was Mystic Seaport
http://www.mysticseaport.org/ and we know why we were told by so many people that it is a "must see"! The tickets are for 2 days and 2 days are needed if you want to see it all...which means we will go back for our second day next week when we are staying in Connecticut. Johnny Cody at Mystic Seaport was one of the "nice people" I mentioned. He is a Citadel graduate and retired FBI agent...obviously, we had lots in common! The Harbor Cruise Tour Guide (I can't remember his name...duh) was great and very informative. He lives on his boat and, when the season is over in Mystic in October, cruises down the intercoastal waterway to spend his winter in Florida. He, and another couple on the tour who lived in Mt. Pleasant for 12 years, were familiar with the SC coast and, specifically, the location of our former house at the Isle of Palms, since it overlooked the waterway. Then we met Roberta at the Gift Shop at Mystic Seaport! She asked Glenn where we were from (a question we are asked alot when they hear our southern accents!) and, come to find out, her daughter, Meredith Sheffer, is a sportswriter for The State newspaper in Columbia and her son-in-law is in graduate school at USC...small world! She was really nice and quite personable! When we left Mystic Seaport (they were closing, ha!) we decided to drive through the town of Mystic http://mystic.org/ before going back to the campground. OK...we found that you can't just drive through Mystic without stopping and walking around! Then we realized we were hungry...duh...and Mystic Pizza was right there (remember the movie with Julia Roberts?)! http://www.mytogo.co/Mystic_Pizza_Main/
Now, I have mentioned the nice people we met today...well, during dinner at Mystic Pizza we met John Kisgen and Sharon from Venice, Florida. Our friends Missi and Alan Youngblood live in the Venice Beach/Englewood area and we visited them several years ago with JerriLynne and Steve Lamb and Judi and Danny Bishop (Missi is JerriLynne's sister for those of you who don't know her). Needless to say, we enjoyed talking to them and hopefully will be able to get together again when we are in Sarasota this winter. Oh, and by the way, the "House Special" pizza with their "secret sauce" was fantastic!!!
You will have to wait for the pictures...our internet service is really slow tonight! Don't despair...you know I will upload them as soon as I can!
The waiting is over! Click on the links to see our pictures!
