The day started with rain and 62 degrees. The nice thing was that we knew that the rain wouldn't last and the temperature was supposed to get up to the low 80's. We were right, the rain didn't last but the weather forecasters were wrong...the temperature only got up to 73. It was great!
We first went to the Navajo County Museum in the Historic courthouse. Quite interesting, and Glenn "charmed" the little lady at the desk! She was very quiet when we arrived and quite personable when we left!
When we left the museum, the rain had just about quit...yeah! We had lunch at Joe and Aggie's Cafe...a local hangout with quite a "Route 66" history. The cafe was written up in the January 11, 2011 issue of Phoenix Magazine with their chicken chimichanga mentioned, so I ordered it. Delish!
Now the rain had completely quit, the sun is coming out and it's time for us to go to the Petrified Forest and Painted Desert National Park. It's very different from the other National Parks we have visited...very easy with few trails but very beautiful in it's own way. Unfortunately, we ran out of time...a ranger pulled up at 6:30 and told us the park was closed and we had to leave. He emphasized "no stops anywhere else" so, while we got to see the rest of the park, the pictures are not good because I had to take them mostly through Glenn's window in the moving jeep and it was getting dark. The colors were spectacular so we are sorry the pictures are not better. It was still a really fun day!
We leave tomorrow for Albuquerque...one stop closer to home!
