June 10, 2012 - Shenandoah National Park - South End

We had a fabulous day today!!!  Up at 8:00 and ready pretty quickly to head to our first of several "Shenandoah adventures".  But first...we met two of our neighbors and ended up talking about an hour.  The two couples are from Maryland (the parents in the fifth wheel beside us and their son and daughter-in-law in the motorhome in front of them) but the son and daughter-in-law are getting ready to move to North Augusta (they also own 4 rental houses in Myrtle Beach...small world, huh)!  They were leaving today, which we hated because we really enjoyed talking to them!  I'm also sorry I didn't get pictures and their names, other than Joe, the Dad.  The "kids" have a maltesse and saw me walking "the girls" which is how we started talking.  Then, another couple from Charlottesville (they keep their motorhome here when they want to "get away" since it's only an hour from Charlottesville) who were walking their dog were interested in "the girls" and started talking...next thing I knew they were telling me about all the activities around Luray and at the campground on weekends.  Sounds like a lot of fun...makes us sort of hate that we are leaving Thursday.  Unfortunately, they too were leaving today!  You meet the nicest people at campgrounds!

OK...I digress again...think it has to do with the late hour!  Anyway, the nice thing about not being on a schedule is that it didn't matter that we got "sidetracked"!

Shenandoah is absolutely beautiful...we can only imagine how beautiful it is in the fall!  As you can see in the pictures, the greens were so vibrant!  We entered at the Thornton Gap Entrance Station outside of Luray and headed south.  I will post a few of the pictures and then attach a link for those of you who want to see more.

Tomorrow we are going to try to do some "real" hiking...weather permitting!  Click on the link below if you want to see more pictures!
