Wow! What a fascinating day! We started at Pickle's Place, obviously a local hangout with really good food! We got there at a good time because, by the time we were served, the restaurant was full and there was a line out the door! Pickle's Place wasn't fascinating, but it was interesting!
Fascinating, interesting, and beautiful in it's own way was the drive to Craters of the Moon and then experiencing Craters of the Moon. The lava fields are unlike Hawaii in that there are no huge craters and the last eruption was 2000 years ago, whereas Hawaii's volcanos are still erupting. Of the 50 states, Idaho would be one of the last states we would have ever expected to see such amazing sites! While we were at Craters of the Moon we hiked through Indian Tunnel, a cave technically called a lava tube. Quite an experience...so glad I had on "terrain appropriate footwear"!
The drive back to the motor home was even more colorful with the sun setting. And we saw some pronghorn antelope! Actually, Glenn saw them first! Another surprise, considering the terrain!
Oh yeah...in case you didn't know, Arco was the first city in the world to be lit by atomic power! This infamous event occurred on July 17, 1955! What a great trivia (or Jeopardy) question! Wonder how many people would get it right! We wouldn't have before today!
Back at the campground we "moseyed" on over to the office for the daily "ice cream social"! This is one of the nicest KOA's we have stayed at and the owners and staff are SO FRIENDLY! Makes one feel like family!
It is hard to imagine the beauty of Craters of the Moon...and even the pictures do not capture it! But they are still pretty good, if I do say so myself! Ha!
Are we glad we came to Arco? Yes!!!
