Day 71 - August 14, 2011 - Salt Lake City, Utah

We drove out to the Great Salt Lake and Antelope Island today...and what a wonderful day it was!  The scenery, colors, and clouds were magnificant!!!

The Great Salt Lake is the largest body of water in the state of Utah and is fed by freshwater Utah Lake.  Because it's only outlet is evaporation, the lake has a much higher salinity than any other of the Earth's oceans and supports no aquatic life other than brine shrimp.  The Dead Sea is the only body of water with a higher salt content.  It is, however, absolutely beautiful!

Antelope Island sits in the middle of the Great Salt Lake and is the only piece of land in Utah surrounded by a natural beach front.  The island is a natural habitat to animals like the buffalo (which we saw) and the antelope (which we didn't see).  The brine shrimp support millions of native and migrating bird species (we saw lots of birds but not many species).

As I said before, what we did see was the most beautiful scenery and colors!  The weather was also beautiful (we can surely get used to this low humidity!) and the sky and clouds were spectacular!  And what does this mean???  You're right!  We took lots of pictures!
