July 7, 2012 - Montpelier, VT

Montpelier is the smallest capital city in America and our scheduled "adventure" today.  Vermont's State House is one of the nation's oldest and best preserved state capitols, and its House and Senate chambers are the oldest legislative chambers in their original condition anywhere in the country. Tour Guide Sherrill Gilbert gave us the most informative and fascinating tour...I think we could have stayed all day!  The gold dome is magnificant, as is the architectural detail of the building. and the city, once again, is full of history and beautiful historic buildings. The Farmers Market that we happened upon has been a weekly event since the 1700's!  We enjoyed the Historical Museum and some shopping downtown.  A trip to Vermont would not be complete without stopping at a maple farm which, in our case, was Morse Farm Maple Sugarworks.  It is an eighth generation maple whose "maple creemee" was featured in Food and Wine Magazine...yummy!  We got back to the campground too late to participate in the "moose race" and auction (which raised $1,200 for the local animal shelter), but in time to enjoy the bonfire.
