July 23, 2012 - Jordan Pond (paddling) and Northeast Harbor, Maine (gardens)

What a fantastic day!  We "christened" the new kayaks by paddling the perimeter of Jordan Pond at Acadia National Park.  What fun!  Love the kayaks!  Initially, the water was fairly calm but then it got quite windy so we had a pretty good workout!  This is the first time we have had kayaks without rudders and found that we didn't need them with these kayaks...they were really easy to maneuver. So glad we got them!

We then headed to Bar Harbor for a late lunch before heading to Northeast Harbor to tour Asticou Azalea Garden, Thuya Garden, Thuya Lodge, and Asticou Terraces & Landing.  The azelea garden is styled after a Japanese stroll garden with many traditional Japanese design features adapted for the natural setting and vegetation of coastal Maine.  The Thuya Garden and surrounding land situated on a granite hillside overlooking Northeast Harbor are a wonderful blend of semi-formal English border beds and indigenous eastern Maine woodlands.  Magnificant!!!  There is way too much history for me to put in this blog but if you want more information you can go to http://www.gardenpreserve.org.  We did get some beautiful pictures...what can I say!

Speaking of pictures, they are still uploading to the photo album and it is late...which means that I will just attach a link instead of  posting any here tonight.  So.....
