We had another amazing day...started off at the National Museum of Woodcarvers, then lunch, then...because it started raining, we went to the Museum in Custer, then Crazy Horse, and ended the day at Mt. Rushmore!
The National Museum of Woodcarvers was fascinaing! Almost all of the exhibits are animinated! Very entertaining! We took way more pictures than I can post here!
Then lunch at a restaurant in downtown Custer. I took the laptop since I get better reception downtown and uploaded pictures to Picassa during lunch, When we walked out of the restaurant it was pouring down rain! We got quite wet running to the car (where our rainsuits were!) and decided to go to the 1881 Custer County Courthouse Museum. What a fantastic museum! When we walked in an older woman was sitting in her walker and enthusiastically greeted us! Her name is Tootie and her grandfather had the first homestead in Custer, which is still a working farm. She taught school for 53 years and was quite a wealth of information as well as being extremely entertaining! The desk in the school room was her desk when she taught. Actually, she said she "sat in front of the desk as a student and behind the desk as a teacher"! When her kids came to pick her up, she pulled out a pictures of her riding a horse on May 31, 2011! Of course, I took a picture of the picture and then one of her holding the picture! I could write more about the experience, but I will move on with the pictures!
Jack also volunteers at the museum. We really enjoyed talking to him too. I think we could have stayed there all day instead of just a few hours!
Here's Tootie riding her horse 5 weeks ago!!! She is 86!
Loved the old courtroom! Just like in the movies!!!
Ironically, this man and his family used to live in Mt. Pleasant!
This is the desk Tootie sat in front of as a student and behind as a teacher for 53 years!
View from the Courtroom.
Next Stop...Crazy Horse Monument. So inspirational! The vision, mission, and dedication amazes me!
Last stop of the day...Mt. Rushmore...WOW again!!!
What a great day!!! I just wish that I could remember everything I learned!!!
