Day 44 - July 18, 2011 -Medora ND

Wow!  Today was amazing!  What a beautiful part of the country!  Medora is the #1 attraction in North Dakota and now we know why!  It is a quaint little western town with lots of history and beautiful scenery!  Theodore Roosevelt National Park is amazing...impossible to describe and, even though we took 1087 pictures today...yes, 1087...and they are outstanding (if I do say so myself!), they do not show the beauty of the area!

We left the motor home this morning at 10:00 am and didn't get back until 9:30 tonight!  Thank God for "pee pee" pads or else we would have been really worried about the "girls"!  We had breakfast at Cowboy's Cafe (very good) and then did some sightseeing around town (some shops, the former site of de Mores Packing Plant, Chateau de Mores Interpretive Center, the locations of Medora Musical and Pitchfork Steak Fondue (we're attending both tomorrow night), Chateau de Mores, Theodore Roosevelt National Park (where we saw 2 Elk, a snake...scared me to death...don't know what kind, a buffalo, several pronghorn antelope, numerous prairie dog towns and prairie dogs, and wild horses, and wrapped up the day at sunset (8:30) at Painted Canyons (a separate part of the TR National Park).  We have just reviewed and deleted pictures but it's too late to post them tonight so you will have to wait to see them tomorrow.  But they are definitely worth waiting for!!!

Your waiting is over!

The town of Medora was founded in April 1883 by a 24 year old French nobleman, the Marquis de Mores.  He named the town for his bride, the former Medora von Hoffman, daughter of a wealthy New York City banker.  With financial backing from his father-in-law, he founded the town of Medora, built a meat pcking plant, a brick plant, a hotel, stores and a large 26 room home (Chateau de Mores) overlooking the town.  The heavy influx of capital into Medora signaled the end of Little Missouri, with many Little Missouri businessmen moving east across the river to the new and prosperous town.

Pitchfork Steak Fondue and Medora Musical are "must experiences" for anyone visiting Medora so, of course, we have tickets.  We decided to locate them so we would know where to go.  Don't want to be late!  They sit on top of a mountain and have the most awesome view!!!

The 70,448 Acre Theodore Roosevelt National Park  tribute to the 26th president's contributions toward the conservation of the nations natural resources.  AWESOME!  Come along for the ride!

This was where I saw the first snake we have seen on the trip, in spite of the fact that there have been signs everywhere saying "watch for snakes"!  Don't know what it was and didn't care!  I just took off the other way!!!  This man was really nice...he thought it was funny...imagine that!

God is SO GOOD!!!
