Day 34 - July 8, 2011 - Custer SD

Well, obviously I got too excited about getting caught up...didn't get anymore pictures posted last night and have been working the last 3 hours trying to get pictures posted...to no avail!  Slow, slow, slow internet service here!  I have had a nice visit with a 13 year old and his grandfather from Buffalo, NY, who were also trying to send pictures to his parents!  He reminded me so much of our grandson, Bryan. He plays baseball and his grandparents are going to take him to the "Field of Dreams" on their way back to New York.  Ironically, the grandparents spent the winter in Florida and then met the rest of the family in Myrtle Beach in April.  They were at Ocean Lakes Campground the same time we were at Ocean Lakes!  They just gave up and called it an evening and I'm getting ready to do the same.  You will just have to keep checking back if you want to see pictures.  I promise, they will eventually get posted!

Today was another beautiful day, as you will be able to see when you see the pictures!  We started off at the Gordon Stockade, a log fortress built in 1874 on the banks of French Creek for protection from a possible Lakota attack.  Then we went back to Custer State Park and drove (with lots of stops for pictures) the Needle Loop.  Amazing again!  The pictures are worth waiting for!

Then a short trek to Hill City.  We did not eat at Alpine Restaurant because it was late afternoon and we needed to get back to the "girls", but we did have drinks on the porch and then walked around town...ok...we did a little shopping too!  It was fun and a nice ending to the day!

I'll try again on the pictures tomorrow night.  Then, Sunday, we leave for Spearfish.  Hopefully the phone and internet service will be better there!
