After helping the economy (we needed more clothes!) we went to Fort Mackinac. The history here is so interesting and, believe it or not, while many of you have heard me say "I don't want to learn, I want to be entertained", that's not totally true! I am fascinated with history, and always have been (I actually started off as a history major in college)...! We have really enjoyed this part of our trip but have not been able to spend as much time at any one museum because there is so much we want to see and not enough time to do it all...I think that means more trips!
We left the Fort and decided to drive to McGulpin Point Lighthouse and the "Big Rock". And, of course, we took more bridge pictures from these places! We enjoyed talking to one of the county commissioners who was a volunteer worker there.
Glenn is now going through all of yesterday's pictures to decide what to put on the blog. What a tremendous help! Once we get the hang of this we should be able to both get to bed at a reasonable time!
Did I mention that today's high was 61! It was cloudy, though, so it was much cooler than it was yesterday when the high was 64 and sunny! Also, something else interesting here...it doesn't get dark until after 10:00 pm, which is good for us when we are taking the dogs out before bedtime!
We will eventually get caught up on posting pictures to our blog. Be patient and keep checking back to past "blogs" if the pictures are not posted when you read the day's events. It will be worth the wait!
This couple had a little white dog that looked just like our "girls"!
These women obviously love their job! They were so much fun!
Fort Mackinaw
These bridge pictures are not out of place! The fort is right beside the bridge on Lake Michigan. Our campground is on the right side of the bridge on Lake Huron.
MuGulpin Point Lighthouse
The "Big Rock" is approximately 33.8 feet in horizontal circumference and is about 9 feet tall. An estimate of its weight is 54 tons.
