Day 6 - Perrysburg OH

We woke up this morning to rain and the temperature was in the high 50's...yeah...cool and the promise of a day not sweating!  We decided last night we wanted to see some of the coast of Ohio on Lake Erie today so our first destination was Port Clinton.  It was 63 degrees when we left the motorhome around noon.  The rain had quit but it was still cloudy with scattered thunderstorms predicted.  We traveled by a lot of farmland and through several quaint towns before arriving at Port Clinton.  We "happened" upon the beautiful Ottawa County Courthouse...at first thought it was a church...and decided to go in.  We could have spent hours just admiring the architecture and reading the history of the county, state, and building.  We had a late lunch at a restaurant on Lake Erie, got information about "where to go if you only have a few hours", and then headed along the coast to Catawba Island State Park and Marblehead Lighthouse.  What a fun day and we met the nicest people everywhere we went...southern hospitality is not just in the south!!!

The Coast Guard was doing a drill from Port Clinton.

Our server is a music major in college, spent a year in Italy studying opera, and is leaving in 3 weeks for Austria to study opera for a year, hoping to someday get a position with the Metropolitan Opera.  I wanted to ask him to sing, but didn't think it was appropriate!

Glenn is checking our the route to Catawba Island and Marblehead.

Catawba Island State Park...what a beautiful place!  And we got picture of Canadian geese!

Marblehead Quarry...it's hard to tell from the picture, but part of it extends out into Lake Erie.

Marblehead Lighthouse...Wow...we could have spent all day here!!!  Absolutely gorgeous...and the history...unfortunately, we ran out of time!

We loved this benchseat!  "70 years together...this was their happy place"!  Think they would have been happy and fun people to be around?   We want to think so!

The ranger at the lighthouse offered to take our picture.  What a nice man...he is retired and he and his wife also toured the country in their motorhome!

I think I'm starting to get the hang of this blog thing and uploading pictures faster.  I haven't forgotten that I still haven't uploaded the pictures from Wednesday at Creation Museum.  It's late now...or early Saturday morning...so I will wait untill tomorrow when we are on our way to Lansing.  We are really excited about seeing Teresa, Russell, Cody and Bryan and spending  5 days with them!  Cody graduates from high school Sunday and then, hopefully, we will get a chance to see both boys play in baseball games again!

Be sure to check back for the pictures from Wednesday.  We are really glad we are taking pictures because we don't think we would remember what we have done without them!  Our minds will probably be mush and the whole country will run together by the time we finish this trip...!!!
