Day 18 - Munising MI

Well you get me (Glenn) today. Linda decided since I haven't even read our own blog since the first day, when I posted comments, that today is my day to blog it.

We slept-in today. It was raining when we got here yesterday, rained all night and was raining when the clock went off at 7 a.m. We both enjoyed. Linda had stayed up much too late working on photos and I slept like a baby as usual. Before getting into the day there are a few observations about the trip in general:

First of all, I've observed that there are rednecks everywhere. While near Toledo, we were passed by an old Cadillac that had the trunk lid secured with two bungee cords. I must add however that they were spaced symmetrically and neatly to appear like two pin stripes. Even though we from the South would consider it a might nippy for June (low 60's most days) there are a hold bunch of pot bellied guys dressed in tank tops and shorts, striped shirts, plaid shorts, sandals with black socks and all manner of tee shirts with you name it messages.

For the motorheads who may be reading, the motorhome is (knock on wood) performing like a dream. It rides as if you are just floating down the road (air-ride suspension). Driving has not been a chore. Linda kicks out her footrest and works on the laptop or makes phone calls etc. when she is not helping me with directions.  With the turbo-charged engine in the rear we can actually carry on a conversation while the pups snooze in their crate. Setting-up when we get to our campground is just so easy.

So far our gas mileage has improved each leg of the trip. When we first drove from Myrtle Beach home, we were getting 8.4 mp. It was 9.9 when we pulled into Munising. We've driven about 1200 miles in the motor home and have done about 500 in the jeep sightseeing etc.

We started our day with lunch. We then took a 38 mile round trip boat cruise on Lake Superior to see and photograph the shores of Pictured Rock National Lake Shore which is managed by the National Park Service. The rock formations and mineral deposits are beautiful as you will see after Linda post our pictures. We went up the road to Christmas, Michigan. Then we decided to do a short hike (800 ft.) to Munising Falls, which we enjoyed.

At this point, I'm not sure how were are going to handle our photographic obsesses the rest of our trip. Janice Foy e-mailed that she and Bob are going to the Grand Canyon this summer and that she had bought a new camera for the trip but wasn't sure why since Linda and I are going there also at some point before we return to Columbia.

We plan on being in Munising until Saturday, then head to Green Bay, stay there for two nights so that we have a full day to see the city.

We really wish we could spend the rest of the Summer in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

I still have some work to do putting these pictures in order and with descriptions (more time consuming with me and Glenn both taking pictures).  At least you can see how awesome the Pictured Rocks are.  The order in which we saw them are:  Miners Castle, Bridal Veil Falls, Painted Coves, Caves of the Bloody Chiefs, Lovers Leap, Rainbow Cave, Indian Head, Gull Rookery, Grand Portal, Battleship Rock, Flower Vase, Indian Drum, Chapel Cave and Chapel Rock.
