Day 21 - Green Bay, Wisconsin

What a beautiful day!  We got up, the sun was shining, and the temperature was in the low 60's.  We were ready by 9:00 to leave for Green Bay.  It was a beautiful drive, some along the Lake Michigan shore. We had lunch at a very popular local family-operated hamburger "joint" in Marinette, Wisconsin that has been in business since 1942.  We got there at a good time...a little before noon.  Right after we started eating the place started filling up and people were standing around waiting for tables!  It was good...but not that good!

We had not made reservations at a campground...none of the campgrounds we have stayed at have been even close to full...so we thought we would take our chances.  We arrived and...guess what?  They were full because there is a big soccer event this weekend and they have people who are attending the Country USA concert in Oshkosh!  The campground was even on the news tonight and when the owner was interviewed she said they are never full...this was an exception!  Anyway, she told us to go to the county fairgrounds because they have overflow camping.  Boy, did we luck out!  This is a great situation.  Very few people here...lots of room for the girls to run in the grass...it's on the bay of Lake Michigan...need I say more!  And it's only $25 a night and is on the honor system.  Put the money in a box and
tear the white stub off and stick it on the post!  Secure...clean...power and water...antenna for the TV...really better in this situation than if we had been in the crowded campground!

We then went to the National Railroad Museum.  Guess what again?  Everyday this weekend (Thursday-Sunday) is "Spend the Day with Thomas the Train"!  Aren't we lucky???  Well, we decided to go in anyway...it couldn't be that bad, could it?  Yes!  It was so crowded with kids running around everywhere and parents and grandparents running after them that we didn't stay long.  The museum was great...the "Thomas" crowd was just more than we could handle today!

We then went to the Lambeau Field (the home of the Green Bay Packers) and the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame.  Wow...Amazing...Great...What more can I say!  We went to the Hall of Fame Museum first and then did the tour of the stadium.  After that we had dinner at Curly's upstairs.  Needless to say, when we got home we were exhausted!  Tomorrow we are going to sleep in and then go to a cheese factory and whatever else we decide to spontaneously do.

We didn't see this sign until we were on our way to the car!  We're surprised, but glad they let us in anyway!

We're trying to be more selective with the pictures that we post but it's hard because, once again, this was a really good place to see and we took a lot of pictures!  We do have a tendency to get carried away when we're having fun!!!

  1. Hey Guys!

Loved hearing about Green Bay. First thing I do every morning now is look up Glenn and Linda (and the girls)!

Regarding reservations, the campground here in Spearfish looks full this weekend. Maybe you want to consider a reservation if you have any idea when you might be here? Also, July 4th weekend might be difficult anywhere, but especially in the Black Hills if you will be here by then. Just a thought!

  5. Sis,
Did you do the Lambeau Leap?
Also, since I'm sure you remember what a huge Packer fan I was in the 60's, I can't wait to see the souvenirs you are bringing me!
    Your loving brother,
    TF
